Brainstorming - New Ideas for a Changing World
In today's business world, the only constant is change. This is a big switch from the way most of us were trained. We have all succeeded in the Cartesian realm of having clear and concise ideas that moved forward in a linear fashion. And now we are expected to think in a different way – it's quite a shift. But we need to prepare ourselves to think in new ways, to find different ways of looking at what is in front of us. We need to apply imaginative problem-solving to tough challenges and issues – and we can do this through brainstorming.
What is Brainstorming?
- Brainstorming incorporates integrative thinking
- Brainstorming embraces surprise and spontaneity
- Brainstorming requires a willingness to tolerate paradox
- Brainstorming generates a large number of ideas
- Brainstorming involves free association
- Brainstorming suspends judgment
- Brainstorming brings ideas together in new ways
- Brainstorming is fun!
Beyond the Box™ Brainstorming Activities
At Beyond the Box, we have designed a wide variety of arts-based activities to facilitate brainstorming techniques. Our brainstorming sessions warm up with hands-on art exercises. Then, groups dynamically brainstorm real-life challenges and commit to implementing realizable solutions.
In Toronto, Ottawa or across Canada, we can custom design brainstorming activities – whether it's a one-hour interactive keynote presentation, a two-hour brainstorming session or a two-day creative brainstorming retreat. Contact us to learn more about our brainstorming activities.
Brainstorming Case Study
When management of a large corporation realized that there were communication issues with their staff, it was time for Beyond the Box™ to step in and help. In a unique two-pronged approach, forty management and staff members gathered for a morning of 'softening up' by Beyond the Box's engaging artist/facilitators. By the time they had been through the non-threatening improv exercises, the musical moments and the hands-on art projects, they were ready to open up to the possibilities afforded them during an afternoon of brainstorming.
The outcomes were surprising and long-lasting. Follow-up meetings between Beyond the Box staff and management confirmed that team members now felt empowered to take initiatives and to trust their environment. As a result, the level of commitment to the company has risen and morale has greatly improved.
